Interesting facts about the Doberman

Did you know that the Doberman was used in Police and military work ? The Doberman originated in Germany, and During both world wars the Germans used the Dobermans as a war dog.
The Doberman was intended as a working dog, to be used for guard work, sentry duty's, sheep hearding, and watch dog.  Many Dobermans however are trained by the Police and Military as guard dogs and war dogs.
The Doberman was best known for his work with the armed forces, with his great intelligence , and alertness,  He is easily trained for such work. The Germans using both Dobermans and Shepard's had 6,000 dogs in service by 1914.
The Doberman preformed many heroic tasks during his war service , his most important activity was rescuing the wounded. There is evidence that at least 4,000 soldiers were first found by trained Dobermans.  They were also used to find enemy positions.  The U.S. Marine Corps has reason to be proud of it's K-9 Dog Corps, The "Devil Dogs" six dogs, four of them Dobermans, were cited for there work in the South Pacific.

Many of our boys were saved by these fearless dogs. Dobermans are also used as seeing eye dogs, but most are family dogs.
Unfortunately, because if his war work, the Doberman is sometimes feared. As every Doberman owner knows, This is far from the truth, The Doberman has more than his share of the quality's of "Mans Best Friend" !  He is affectionate, fond of children, playful, and loyal with great intelligence, He is a perfect member of any household.
America has also used Dobermans extensively in Police work. The Baltimore Police claim that one dog equals six men.  There K-9 Corps had some 400 dogs (at the last count) which are credited with over 500 arrests.
A Dobe on duty will patrol his area and if he senses someone lurking , he will hold them at bay until his master arrives.  Such a dog will attack only in self defense or upon command from his trainer.

Here I have posted some interesting old pictures of the Doberman.
Many years ago I was speaking with a local Gentleman who was bragging on his Rottie and speaking  about "WAR DOGS" and I mentioned that the Doberman had a great contribution to that fact, which he agitatedly denied ever knowing of Dobermans being used in nay war, as he was in the service himself during that era, and claimed to have never heard of Dobermans being used as war dogs, despite my insistence in that they had been, he all but called me a liar, I hope that this gentleman see's these photo's as they are a true testimate to that fact, smile!
