At LeGard we feed our puppies only Pedigree dry puppy food, we recommend to keep your puppy healthy that you also feed Pedigree, as you know, when you get your LeGard puppy its coat is shiny, its eyes sparkle, and it is in proper weight, I am a firm believer in, "if it is not broken" do not fix it! It is of course up to you, however, why change it if it works, our puppy's are fed Pedigree until they are at least 18 months old, to 2 years, depending on there determined size at maturity. There is no reason to pay high prices for "popular" name brands that are often over priced and over rated. Some breeds may do very well on these "other" brands, however, Dobermans here do very well on Pedigree, it is also available most everywhere and can be purchased at most retail stores (Kmart and Wal-Mart) and grocery stores.Pedigree puppy has everything your puppy needs, extra calcium, and other important ingredients.

Feeding guidelines
We like to feed 3 meals per day up to about 5-6 months old
At 5-12 months we feed twice daily, once in the morning, and again at dinner
Then from 1 year and on we feed once per day
We also give a small bedtime treat or milk bone before lights out
The amount will vary in each puppy, rule of thumb, if the puppy cleans the bowl and still acts hungry, add a bit more until you have adjusted it correctly, we have found that on different days, each will sometimes eat more, or less, on an average
for a small puppy 8 weeks to 3 months - 1/2 to 1 1/2cups per feeding
ALWAYS PROVIDE CLEAN FRESH WATER!
If you like to give something extra, added to the dry puppy food, (not necessary) we recommend these NATURAL healthy additions, that puppy's LOVE!
Remember that when you start giving "extras" in addition to the dry food, you may encourage your puppy to become a "picky eater" .
Cottage cheese (loaded with calcium)
Buttermilk (ditto on calcium)
Plain Yogurt (ditto again)
Goats milk ( Never regular "sweet milk")
Pedigree canned puppy food ( just a few teaspoons for flavor)
Cooked rice (white or brown)
cooked eggs (Prefer hard boiled)
IF you are into supplements the ONLY type I recommend are
Wheat Germ oil (Great for coats) and a little goes along ways!
Flax seed oil
Sea Kelp
Fish oils
Vitamin C ( helps in healing, with ear crops, etc.)
Brewers yeast and Garlic
ALWAYS feed your Doberman after working them or after there exercise, and NEVER allow them to run and play for up to an hour after meals to prevent BLOAT!
